Nursing is a very challenging career that allows you the opportunity to promote and maintain the health and well-being of our community. I enjoy being in a profession that helps people. While there are many different occupations that would allow me to help people, I feel that nursing is the one that I would be able to share my gift of caring for others most. Nursing would allow me to care for the "whole" of people- their physical needs as well as their mental and spiritual needs. Every human being does not have what it takes to provide such care, but I've been blessed with the ability to do so. This is the main reason I have decided to become a nurse. There are also endless opportunities, flexibility, rewards, and professional status associated with nursing.


As a volunteer of the oncology unit at a local hospital, I have an opportunity to get a closer look at some of the many facets of nursing. I have learned that nurses are extremely important and play a major role in the medical field. I enjoy caring for the patients, and volunteering at the hospital is the best thing that I have ever done.


After graduating from College of Nursing, I plan to work as a registered nurse and continue my education to become a nurse practitioner. As a nurse, I feel that I can contribute to improving our society and the nursing profession by sharing my knowledge, wisdom, skills, and gift of caring with others. Although I believe that I could work well in any nurse setting, I've been torn between working with the elderly and children because I get a special joy out of helping those who are not able to help themselves.
